IPL Photofacial

Sun exposure is one of the most significant environmental contributors to premature aging on the face, hands and décolletage. The Forever Young BBL™ photofacial is an advanced form of IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy at Skin Raleigh med spa that repairs sun-damaged skin so you can enjoy a more even and youthful complexion.

Is the Photofacial Right for You?

The IPL photofacial can be applied almost anywhere on the face or body. The gentle laser energy is absorbed by pigmented areas of the skin, which then darken and fall away. The result is clearer skin and a more radiant complexion, along with firmer, smoother skin texture.

The best candidates for IPL photofacials are men or women who notice uneven or blotchy pigmentation of the skin. This can include small freckles as well as larger age spots or liver spots. However, Forever Young BBL™ treatments can also be used to reduce redness in your face and chest due to rosacea, broken capillaries or excessive sun exposure.

People who have photofacial treatments most commonly suffer from one or more of the following skin concerns:

Aging Hands

Photofacial treatments can target sun damage on the hands to create a healthier, more even look. With gentle laser energy, a photofacial can correct the appearance of broken capillaries and rosacea that so often affect the hands as we move into middle and older age.

Freckles/Age Spots

The Forever Young BBL™ photofacial uses intense pulsed light therapy to specifically target sun related skin damage, such as freckles and age spots. The photofacial helps sun-induced pigmentation dissolve for a clearer, brighter skin tone.

Rosacea

Photofacial treatments help improve rosacea with intense pulsed light therapy. Because people with rosacea often have dilated blood vessels and broken capillaries that are visible on the surface of the skin, photofacial treatments can greatly improve their overall complexion and create a more radiant, healthy glow. Depending on the severity of rosacea, you may wish to have more than one photofacial to achieve the best results. Some people with rosacea choose to have regular intense pulsed light treatments to maintain a clear complexion.

Sun Damage

Intense pulsed light therapy can treat rosacea, broken capillaries and uneven pigmentation, all common symptoms of sun damage. The photofacial treatment uses laser energy to absorb pigmented spots in the skin, causing the pigmented cells to die off and leave behind a smoother complexion.

Veins on Face

Similar to rosacea treatments, photofacials can improve the appearance of facial veins by using intense pulsed light. When the pigmented cells from facial veins absorb heat from the laser energy, they become destroyed and gradually fall away from the skin’s surface, leaving behind a clearer skin tone. A photofacial may leave your complexion flushed immediately after your treatment, but over the following few days, you should notice a decrease in redness and more even complexion. Treatments may be repeated as necessary.

Your Recovery & Results

Each photofacial treatment only takes between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the treatment area(s). Immediately following your treatment, your skin may look more flushed than usual and any dark spots may appear a bit darker. Over the next several days, redness will fade and pigmented areas will flake away. Most people see a noticeable improvement in skin tone after 1 to 2 treatments, but more sessions may be necessary for the best results.

Since a Forever Young BBL™ photofacial is completely noninvasive, you can expect to return to your normal routine immediately after your appointment. Improvement in your skin’s tone and texture will happen gradually, and should be more visible with each additional treatment session.

While a photofacial can be an excellent solution for improving overall skin tone and texture, it’s not a solution for wrinkles and other signs of aging. For this reason, many people choose to combine photofacial treatments with additional skin rejuvenation options, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or injectable fillers.

Skin Raleigh has helped clients from throughout North Carolina, including Durham and Chapel Hill, meet their cosmetic goals with nonsurgical treatment options from our med spa. If you’re ready to see the difference that our aesthetic team can make in your appearance, please request a consultation today.
